3 Recent Buys – AYX, ICE, TWLO

BuySell

A quick update on recent buys in my portfolio. As mentioned in the Outlook post, after a lot of sales in March, I have decided to start deploying more capital into the markets as I don’t like to sit on a lot of cash on the sidelines. In this iteration, all two of the three companies are new to my portfolio and one is a re-initiation.

  • First purchase: I re-initiated my position in Twilio Inc (TWLO) @ $115.43. TWLO is a fast growing SaaS company that I had a position in the past. I am still bullish on the long term for this company even though we may see some bumps along the road as we go through this recession. The revenue growth is slowing for this wide moat company & current expectations are approx 25% going forward.
  • Second purchase: I initiated a position in another SaaS company: Alteryx Inc (AYX) @ $112.49. Alteryx makes business critical end-to-end data analytics software. Another wide moat company that has been growing well and is expected to grow revenue by approx 30% going forward.
  • Third purchase: I initiated a position in Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) @ $91.93. ICE owns 12 regulated exchanges (including NYSE) and 6 clearing houses. Market operators like ICE have a very wide moat and the future continues to be brighter than ever.

2 Recent Buys – CSU, TWLO

BuySell

A quick update on two purchases in my portfolio from last week.

  • First purchase: I added to my position in Constellation Software Inc (CSU.TO) @ $1,301.68. This is my third tranche of buying CSU and now makes for a full position. Previous purchases are documented here.
  • Second purchase: I added to my position in the one SaaS company I own – Twilio Inc (TWLO) @ $104.00. A riskier play but I like the long term prospects of the company. Decided to up my stake a little bit with this purchase after the whole SaaS space took a beating last week.

2 Recent Buys – BAM, TWLO

BuySell

A quick update on two purchases in my portfolio. A correction seems to be ongoing and I decided to put some capital to work. One new company added to my portfolio in this iteration of purchases.

  • First purchase: I added 50 shares of Brookfield Asset Management (BAM.A.TO) @ CAD$66.95. Brookfield has been gobbling up assets across the world at a record pace. With alternate assets in demand and blue sky outlook over the coming years and decades, BAM is still a great buy at these levels. The stock yields 1.32% and adds US$32.00 in annual dividends.
  • Second purchase: A new position and my first SaaS stock. I opened a new position with 25 shares of Twilio Inc (TWLO) @ $124.84. This will be a bit more speculative on my part as it deviates a bit from my usual type of investments. Twilio is a programmable communication platform, with no direct competition and rapid growth in revenue (85% YoY revenue growth as of Q2 2019) and a ‘Rule of 40’ of 76%. The company boasts 162K businesses as customers, with more being added each quarter. The company makes extremely sticky software that has high switching costs (read: wide moat), but comes with risks based on current valuation. I have been tweeting about this company over the past few weeks — see this thread for more info.
