Recent Sell – Realty Income Corp

As most regular readers are aware, I have been liquidating some of my holdings lately. This has been driven by a few different reasons – driven by a combination of market conditions, complacency in the market, lack of belief in individual holdings, the yearn for simplicity provided by index funds etc. Some of these reasons have been summarized in this post. This post captures another recent sell in my portfolio.

As the market continues to hover around all time highs, I have been thinking more about investor psychology and introspecting my own mentality. Recently I posted an article entitled “Do You Love Your Investment Holdings?” detailing how investors can fall in love with a holding and try to justify it even when the evidence points to investors to come to different conclusions instead. This can be driven by familiarity and a bias that comes with ownership of shares in a company for a prolonged period of time. This is a common pitfall that investors fall for and I came to the conclusion that I was facing the same issue with this holding. While this particular company is one that I didn’t quite love, I have noticed that most investors in the community seem to love it thanks for the dividends.

Realty Income Dividend Increase

Realty Income Corp (O) announced a 0.25% increase in its cash dividend. The monthly cash dividend will increase from $0.1985 to $0.199 per share and payable on Apr 15, 2016 to shareholders on record as of Apr 01, 2016. This is Realty Income’s  second increase in 2016 after a raise in January 🙂

This is the 85th dividend increase from Realty Income since the company went public in 1994. The annual dividend rate goes up from $2.382 to $2.388. Yield going forward based on yesterday’s closing stock price is 3.93%.

From the press release statement:

“We are pleased that our Board of Directors has once again determined that we are able to increase the amount of the monthly dividend we pay to our shareholders,” said John P. Case, Chief Executive Officer of Realty Income. “With the payment of the April dividend, we will have made 549 consecutive monthly dividend payments and paid over $3.9 billion in dividends throughout our 47-year operating history.”

Our portfolio consists of 60 shares of Realty Income, which increases our annual dividends from $142.92 to $143.28, an increase of $0.36.

Realty Income Corp (O) announced a 3.92% increase in its cash dividend. The monthly cash dividend will increase from $0.191 to $0.1985 per share and payable on Feb 16, 2016 to shareholders on record as of Feb 01, 2016. Compared to the dividend a year ago, the current dividend rate is up 5%.

This is the 84th dividend increase from Realty Income since the company went public in 1994. The annual dividend rate goes up from $2.292 to $2.382. Yield going forward based on yesterday’s closing stock price is 4.56%.

“We are pleased that the continued strength in our operations allows us to increase the amount of the dividend we pay to our shareholders, while still maintaining a comfortable dividend coverage ratio,” said John P. Case, Chief Executive Officer of Realty Income. “With the payment of the February 2016 dividend, shareholders will enjoy an increase of 5% in the amount of their dividend as compared to the same month in 2015.”

My portfolio consists of 60 shares of Realty Income, which increases my annual dividends from $137.52 to $142.92, an increase of $5.40.

This is the company’s 83rd dividend increase since the company went public in 1994 and an amazing fifth increase this year! The monthly dividend increases from $0.1905 to $0.191 per share. The dividend is payable on Jan 15, 2016 to shareholders of record as of Jan 4, 2016.

Case, Chief Executive Officer of Realty Income. “With the payment of the January dividend, we will have made 546 consecutive monthly dividend payments and paid over $3.8 billion in dividends throughout our 46-year operating history.

The new dividend amount represents an annualized dividend amount of $2.292, up from $2.286 per share. My portfolio consists of 60 shares of Realty Income and the new increase bumps up my annual dividends from $137.16 to $137.52, an increase of $0.36.

This is the company’s 82nd dividend increase since the company went public in 1994 and an amazing fourth increase this year! The monthly dividend increases from $0.19 to $0.1905 per share. The dividend is payable on Oct 15, 2015 to shareholders of record as of Oct 1, 2015.

Case, Chief Executive Officer of Realty Income. “With the payment of the October dividend, we will have made 543 consecutive monthly dividend payments and paid over $3.6 billion in dividends throughout our 46-year operating history.

The new dividend amount represents an annualized dividend amount of $2.286, up from $2.28 per share. My portfolio consists of 60 shares of Realty Income and the new increase bumps up my annual dividends from $136.80 to $137.16, an increase of $0.36.
