A quick update on a a recent purchase in my portfolio to close out the month of October.

I feel like I keep repeatedly publishing the same post over and over 🙂 I had put in a low-ball offer a few weeks/months ago, which got executed last week. In this purchase, I added 100 shares of Inter Pipeline Ltd (IPL.TO) @ $20.80. IPL is a pipeline company that I have been a shareholder in for a long time and continue to build my position over the years. I have doubled my position since the start of 2018 with these purchases. IPL now makes a substantial position in my portfolio and will possibly look at limiting any more build-up since I do not want to own too much portfolio concentration in a single stock. With a current yield of ~7%, this purchase adds CAD$168 to my forward dividend income.

With WCS crude prices selling at record lows, the upstreams are desperate to sell as much as they can to keep the revenues up (possibly a good time to look at some upstream plays in the Canadian oil sands sector, such as Suncor, Cenovus, Canadian Natural Resources etc…but I digress). As a result, all pipelines are running full and future capacities such as Line 3 from Enbridge that is scheduled to come online in fall 2019 is already completely sold out. In addition to the pipelines, upstream operators have been buying all capacity they can find on railroads, trucks etc. So, it’s a good time to be a midstream operator in Alberta, and I think this is a good opportunity to add to IPL.

A quick update on a a recent purchase in my portfolio to close out the month of August.

I had put in a low-ball offer a few weeks/months ago, which got executed just before the market closed last Friday. In this purchase, I added 100 shares of Inter Pipeline Ltd (IPL.TO) @ $24.00. A quick update on a purchase in my portfolio earlier this week. As expected, the stock market’s decline had a wide implication on already depressed stock prices where I see good value. I decided to take the opportunity to add more shares to an already decent sized position.

Earlier this week, I decided to add 100 shares in Inter Pipeline Ltd (TSE:IPL) @ CAD$22.70. This purchase price locks in a 7.4% yield adding C$168.00 to my annual passive income stream.

I just listed all my Recent Buy Decision during my last purchase a couple of weeks ago, so I will link to that post instead of rehashing the details.

A quick update on another purchase to wrap up January 2018. This time, its a purchase adding to my dividend growth portfolio after a long time. Its been hard to find value in this market, except in the basic materials sector. However, as I mentioned in the Outlook for 2018 post, I am looking to pull some money off the table as I have overextended in this sector of the economy — with my investment portfolio sitting close to 50% in that one sector. I am still bullish on the sector, but looking to deploy funds elsewhere in the economy, and I have been looking at related commodity plays.

For this purchase, I have looked at the energy sector and decided that I could use with some more exposure and increase my annual dividends from an existing company in my portfolio. Continue reading

Recent Buy – Inter Pipeline Ltd

Inter Pipeline Ltd

As the market continues its relentless climb, I have been weary and finding it harder to find some good investment opportunities. The purchases have all but dried up in my portfolio. However, I was finally able to pull the trigger last week when I saw a pretty good opportunity in the energy sector. Midstream/pipelines were one of the best performers in 2016 and the stock picking competition resulted in Top 3 to be pipelines. However, they seemed to have pulled back a bit this year, and I decided to add to my existing position.

I added 100 shares in Inter Pipeline Ltd (IPL.TO) @ C$26.00. The company pays C$1.62 in dividends annually and currently yields 6.15%.
