Passive Income Update – Dec 2017

Welcome to our monthly passive income update for December 2017. This is part of the scorecard series where we track our dividends and other sources of passive income. We also include changes and updates related to our investments during the month – showing the overall progress.

Passive Income  Update

Passive income for the month of December 2017 was CAD$1,515.41, a new all time high thanks to an annual payout from one of the funds 🙂 The passive income for the month comprised of US$406.83 and CAD$1,002.80 (exchange rate is US$1 = CAD$1.26).

Passive income change is +110.4% QoQ and +6.01% YoY for the month. The passive income for 2017 adds up to $9,697.25 and achieves ~97% of our annual goal of earning $10K. Even though I came up ~$300 short on the goal, I still consider this a pretty good achievement for the year.

Awesome stuff Sabeel! Looks like there were lots of personal bests during December. I need to tally up our dividends from the funds we own to see how much they paid us too. Even though you’re technically short of your goal of $10k, that’s close enough to count in my book. Great stuff and can’t wait to see how 2018 treats us all.

  2. R2R, Great way to end the year! I hoping to learn more about options trading in 2018. I think it is a great way to add some income, if done correctly. Also, love seeing the payment from VTR. They are on my watch list at the moment.

    Good Luck in 2018!

    • Thanks MH. 2017 ended very well with our portfolio hitting all time highs, dividends coming in at all-time highs etc. VTR is a very well run company and I would love to add to my position. I should look closely again as I havent evaluated lately. I think they just bounced off their 52-week lows, so might be a good time to add.

  3. You had an awesome year even coming up short $300 of your goal. That’s nothing. Between crypto, pot, precious metals, options, etc. you have created a very diversified portfolio of assets that should continue to produce great returns for you in 2018. Keep up the good work!

    • Thanks DH. Hope 2017 was just as great for you. I am pretty happy with the diversified assets and looking to improve my diversification a bit more in 2018. Here’s to a new year and snowballing that income.
