Passive Income Update – Jan 2015

Welcome to my monthly passive income update for January 2015. This is part of the series where I track my dividends and other sources of passive income. In addition, I also discuss my portfolio updates including dividend increase announcements from my holdings.

Passive Income  Update

Passive income for the month of January 2015 was C$548.98. The passive income comprised of US$260.24 and C$223.68 (exchange rate is US$1 = C$1.25). My passive income took a big jump, in addition to my portfolio value and net worth thanks to the falling Loonie and the fact that I invested a lot in the US companies while the Canadian dollar was on par.

    • It was a great month, FFF. I am not concerned whether the stock market goes up or down. All that matters is that my income stream gets better with time and I can already see that happening 🙂

Thanks for the words of encouragement.
      best wishes

    • Thanks DH. I briefly checked out your site a couple of days ago after a shoutout from Asset-Grinder. I am yet to explore your site and read thru….look forward to some comments from me soon 🙂

Thanks for stopping by and the comment.
      cheers

    • Thanks W2R. The $5500 is starting to look realistic when I look at it as a percentage. But some of the “other” income streams are variable…so, I’ll see where things go rest of year and may up that target if I get close earlier than Nov/Dec.

  1. R2R,

Fantastic start to the new year! I like the diversity of your income streams. Your other income is very impressive. I need to create some side income myself. It’s one of my goals that I can’t continue to ignore. Again, great job!

    • MDP,
Thanks. My diversity in income is something that Im proud of. Dividends are fantastic, but they are only one stream of income – I want to build multiple streams and if one dies, I am not left hanging in the future 🙂

Wishing you the best in achieving your goals

  2. Solid start to the year! First month of the quarter and you have 10% already! That is 40% if the remaining First months pay you out the same. Doesn’t look like you had and single payers this month (unless I missed it). Do you think your dividend goal was a bit conservative?

    Take care!

    • ILG,
Thats right – there are no single payers this month. My other income is variable month to month, so its not guaranteed that I will hit this amount each first month of the quarter. I do feel that the $5500 is a bit conservative though…but we’ll see how the year goes and I may up the target a bit if I get close early.

  3. Very nice passive income! My only stock that pays in USD is AQN, and I noticed the exchange rate helping me out on that end as well. Also finally got my adsense payment setup done, but I doubt I will see the actual cash for some time as it seems to be defaulted to a $100 threshhold to pay out 🙁 Got a long way to go on that front, but its a start!

You seem well on your way to hitting your passive income goal for the year as well! Was January one of your generally higher or lower paying months?

    • Congrats on setting up AdSense. When I first setup the adsense, it took months to get my first cheque. The only word of advice I have is – just try to build your traffic to your site. This will help increase the potential for your ad revenue. In my case, its not something that I can retire on, but just another little source of passive income in my stream of incomes.

The exchange definitely helps, eh? Jan is usually my slow month, but my other income did really well, so it was better than expected.

      cheers

  4. Way to start to year, great job R2R! That “other” passive income is eclipsing the dividends! I like your approach to passive income, it seems to be serving you well. Hope the rest of the year goes this well or even better for you.

  5. RoadMap,

If I’m not mistaken – if you keep this up each month you’ll surpass your goal : ) Thoughts on bumping it up? I would more than likely expect your dividend income to be higher on march/june/sept/dec thus proving out that you’ll dominate your goal of $5.5k! I am sure your passive income from other avenues will stay strong.

Regardless — you had a PHENOMENAL month! Congrats roadmap and keep it up – we know you will.

  6. R2R, great review of your income, portfolio and dividends. It is inspirational. I like to see what stocks you are investing in and considering them or analyzing them as I use them as my future investing ideas
