Passive Income Update – Dec 2014

Welcome to my monthly passive income update for December 2014. This is part of the series where I track my dividends and other sources of passive income.

Passive Income  Update

Passive income for the month of December 2014 was C$698.16. Thanks to an annual payout from my wife’s mutual fund holding, December 2014 has turned out to be the best month ever!! The passive income comprised of US$193.56 and C$473.63 (exchange rate is US$1 = C$1.16).

  Passive Income - Dec 2014

Our total passive income for the year of 2014 is $5,133.33, which is much higher than the original annual goal of $4,000 in passive income that I had set. I suppose I hugely underestimated that number. Over the course of the year, our total dividend income totaled $2,926.98 and “other” passive income totaled $2,206.35.

Passive income contributing entities:

Stocks:

  • Archer Daniels Midland (ADM)
  • Canadian National Railway (CNR.TO)
  • Chevron Corp (CVX)
  • Cineplex Inc (CGX.TO)
  • Inter Pipeline Ltd (IPL.TO)
  • Johnson & Johnson (JNJ)
  • Magna International (MG.TO)
  • Qualcomm Inc (QCOM)
  • Realty Income Corp (O)
  • RioCan REIT (REI.UN.TO)
  • Thomson Reuters Corp (TRI)

Funds:

  • BMO Equal Weight Utilities Index ETF (ZUT.TO)

Other:

My “other” passive income has grown due to the popularity of the new articles published. The breakdown of my passive income contributing entities is: dividends from stocks and funds totaled $428.01 and other passive income totaled $270.15. Read more about why I consider this a passive income in Passivity Index post.

    • Thanks DH. We had to sell some of our investments for fund our home purchase and we are hoping to rebuild that part of the portfolio to bring it closer to where we were in 2015. Hopefully, we will be able to achieve some positive growth this year.

Thanks for stopping by and the wishes

  1. Wowsers, closing the year with quite the bang, both from dividend income and your other sources. Even with the challenge of having to sell some of your assets, you’ve developed a platform in which you should be able to continue growing your other income while regaining some of the lost momentum in your dividend stocks.

    • You said it, w2r. Im hoping to get some positive growth by the end of 2015 after having to sell some of our assets. The “other” category definitely helps. Thanks for stopping by and the wishes. Best wishes to you in 2015 and beyond.

  2. Great job this month and this year, especially since you reduced your positions to get your house. Have a diversified passive income stream is smart and a good strategy. I’m sure you’ll have a superb 2015 where passive income is concerned.

  3. You’re on fire! This has been a big year for you. It’s so inspiring seeing you pass your goal by so much even with the house. Great job and I’m looking forward to reading more progress!

    • It sure has, Ryan. 2014 has turned into the best year so far and Im hoping to continue the trend. 2015 goals are in sight and its time to get crackin 🙂

Thanks for stopping by and the wishes

  4. Hi R2R,

Congrats on a great year and ending the year on a high note is icing on the cake. You may need to increase your 2015 target of $5,500 at this rate which is always a nice problem to have!

    Best wishes,
    -DL

    • DL,
Thanks. haha…I wonder if I should increase it. But after having to sell some of our investments in 2014, I went with a more target that we can catch up to. I will re-evaluate in a few months and update if I think we can do better.

Thanks for stopping by and the wishes.

  5. Hi R2R,
I am discovering your blog and loving it.
I am curious about your ad revenues… what type of revenue are we talking about?
Congrats for the phenomenal year and all the best for 2015.
    Cheers,

  6. Congrats on the big month and year of passive income. December is always great for me on the dividend income. Surpassed 1500 dollars in dividends for December. Is it income if its reinvested? I am just building a big foundation for compounding greatness later.

  7. R2R,

congrats to you guys for setting a new monthly record! At $700 you are starting to get to an really interesting level of passive income. I imagine you can already see yourself being financially independent and maybe even feel it.
I am very happy for you and will stick around while you continue to keep your snowball growing.

    • GI,
The $700 is more of an anomaly due to the annual payout from my wife’s mutual fund. We are still not close to generating $700 consistently month after month. But im sure we will get there in due time 🙂

      cheers

  8. Excellent dividend income for December and overall income for 2014! Your hard work is starting to pay, well, dividends! Good luck for 2015 and keep up the great work!

    Cheers
