Chevron (CVX) Dividend Increase

Chevron (CVX) announced that its quarterly dividend will be raised by 7% from $1.00 per share to $1.07 per share. This dividend increase is the company’s 27th consecutive annual increase. The new dividend is scheduled to be paid on Jun 10, 2014 to shareholders on record as of May 19, 2014. The new dividend rate results in an annualized yield of 3.41% based on CVX’s closing price.

My portfolio consists of 10 shares of Chevron, which increases my annual dividend raise from $40.00 to $42.80. My yield-on-cost rises to 3.60%.

  1. With all of the capex from last year and the beginning of this year the increase came in pretty much where I expected. I’d have loved to see another 10%+ increase but I didn’t think that would be coming along this year. I figured 6-7% so the 7% increase was nice since it was on the high end of my expectation.

    • Same here, PIP. 10% raise was unlikely and I was expecting 6-8% and good to see the 7% raise. I would like to add to my position in CVX but I am already overweight energy, so it’ll have to wait.

  2. Love the CVX raise. Have you considered BP & TOT. I am considering both for low PE and for future dividend increases. I have no energy in my portfolio but would like to add. Considering BP, TOT, XOM, COP or CVX.

    • All great companies, DivHut. I considered the others and had a hard time picking – eventually it came down to dividend rates and growth rates and the track record over the years and decades for raising dividends. At the end, I had narrowed it down to CVX, XOM and RDS.B for my picks and eventually went with CVX. Most oil companies have a low PE currently – so its a great time to pick up some shares. There have been a lot of articles in the last couple of weeks comparing CVX and XOM – its all neck and neck. Cant go wrong with either.

I would probably add another oil company to my portfolio in the future, but I am currently overweight in the energy sector, so it’ll have to wait.

Thanks for stopping by. I will be checking out your blog – its new to me 🙂

    • I think CVX is still attractively valued, Marvin.
But if there is a market correction, then the broader market will drag down the stock for position initiation.
