Passive Income Update – Aug 2013

Welcome to my Aug 2013 monthly passive income update. This is part of the series where I track my monthly dividends and other sources of passive income. Passive income for the month of Aug 2013 was $159.10Passive income contributing entities:

  • IAMGold (IMG) – I wrote a Sep 21 covered call on IMG and collected a premium.

  • iShares 1-5 Yr Laddered Government Bond Fund (CLF)
  • Claymore S&P US Dividend Growers ETF (CUD)
  • iShares Canadian Financial Monthly Income Fund (FIE.A)
  • BMO Equal Weight Utilities Index ETF (ZUT)
  • A mutual fund yielding approx 6%

  • MBNA Smartcash credit card cashback

New Positions

I initiated a new position in Omega Healthcare Investors Inc (OHI). Omega Healthcare is a REIT providing financing and capital to the long term healthcare industry with a focus on skilled nursing facilities in the United States. Read my post about this purchase.I initiated a new position in Chevron (CVX). Chevron is the fourth largest oil and gas giant and is a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average. Chevron is involved in both the upstream and downstream businesses. Reduced Positions

I partially sold my positions in iShares Canadian Financial Monthly Income Fund (FIE.A). This was mostly to pay down some of the upcoming expenses on my personal front. This sale will reduce my monthly passive income by approximately $23 per month.

Added Positions

I added to my positions in: Claymore S&P US Dividend Growers ETF (CUD), Vanguard US Total Market Index ETF CAD Hedged (VUS), Vanguard Total International Stock ETF (VXUS) and two globally diversified mutual funds.
